Henley Square Design Competition
WAX was recently involved in the Henley Square Urban Design Competition. Our response was to evoke a South Australian icon, the striped beach tent which remains an essential compliment to a day at the beach. The canvas tent is a recognisable artefact of our local culture with its collection of poles, pegs, and ropes that can be arranged to become a shelter, a destination, a place made.
Our design ‘CANVAS’ used the shade structure, a temporary, almost ephemeral object that delivered a series of unique urban design responses for this important South Australian beach destination.

WAX Picks Up National Planning Award.
WAX Design is delighted to receive a National
Planning Award of Excellence and would like to thank and congratulate the
project team of Suter Planners and URPS, as well as the support of District
Council of Streaky Bay, the local community, DPTI, DEWNR and Office of Sport
and Recreation. A commendation for ‘Best
Planning Ideas Small Project Award’ was received from the Planning Institute of Australia for
the Streaky Bay District Management Plan.
“The
Management Plan, founded on an agreed strategic vision, represents a collaborative
approach to the development and management of recreation, natural and urban
realms. It involves the integration of a range of ideas and opportunities complemented
by community engagement, which showcases good planning practice. The result is
a concise framework from which to implement the Plan.”
Well done to the Streaky Bay Council, Community
and project team for the great outcome!
