Victor Harbor Consultation...All Wrapped Up.

On Saturday 15th March the WAX team, along with the Victor Harbor Council members engaged with the local community regarding the Victor Harbor Mainstreet Master Plan.  As part of the event, a temporary arts installation designed and constructed by the WAX team was used to alter the street.  The art work involved wrapping bollards, trees, planter boxes, benches and covering the pavement in bright orange construction plastic.  Big bold words stencilled across the wrapped orange forms both welcomed and questioned locals, asking how they would like their mainstreet designed.
Using the curiosity generated by the art activation, Council staff and WAX consulted nearly 100 members of the community over a three hour period.  Visitors to the Mainstreet Master Plan Exhibition provided valuable insights, comments and critique of the project.  Thank you to all who attended and made it such a fun day, creating a strong positive vibe throughout the community and a very successful consultation process.

Beaumont Residence Completion

After a challenging construction period, WAX and Summit Landscape have delivered front and rear gardens for the Beaumont residence that offer visual interest and create usable spaces for the client.

The design for the sloping rear of the site creates a series of living spaces. Juxtaposing the natural grade, linear stone walls are creatively located to interrupt the gradient and craft usable levels. Three distinct levels allow for larger entertaining, intimate seating and a productive garden through the elegant response to the site.

The front landscape sees strips of corten steel creating terraced levels of lawn that shape green extensions to the blue stone entry steps to the house across the site. The landscapes linear composition creates a strong visual language responding to the architecture allowing a smooth transition between it and the landscape.

Saturday in Design

Collaborating with Enoki, 1000 Chairs, A&B, Archilux, Gareth Brown and Anouk a Spanish Fiesta theme of the day influenced the green installations created by WAX Design. Working with our sponsors, Bennetts Magill Pottery and Heyne’s Nursery, terracotta pots and plants were used to create our temporary tiered green wall as the feature back drop to the central show room.
Bike racks recently designed by WAX assisted with a sense of arrival out on the street and turf donated by Brooks Turf and laid with the help of Summit Landscape created a ‘party garden’ in the rear car park. The day was great fun, with paella, sangria, DJ James Paris and sunshine to create a lazy afternoon siesta vibe.

Cottage Character

WAX features in Sanctuary Magazine for a sustainable garden design which responds to the architecture of the client’s original 1880s cottage and the new extension by Troppo Architects. The use of recycled and local sourced natural materials throughout the garden, left to weather, share a similar language to the architecture creating a unity between the indoors and outdoors. The lawn is watered with rainwater along with the mix of drought tolerant natives and the productive garden. Several trees are located to provide shading to the house in summer.
