WAX Design collaborated with Energy
Architecture on the Port Augusta Common Ground project which has won the 2013
UDIA Award for Excellence Affordable Development at last week’s UDIA awards. WAX
responded to the surrounding landscape of Pt Augusta as a
driving influence for the design, with organic path networks and curved garden
beds imitating the clusters of salt bush and spinifex which contrasts with the
red earth that meanders its way through the vegetation.
A
robust, socially and environmentally considerate landscape offers individuals
private refuge, common areas for congregation and social interaction. Combining
opportunities for education through the productive garden, bush foods and fruit
trees as well as the use of indigenous vegetation.
